I'm Bringing You In.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Progress requires unlearning. Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously edit your beliefs, and to upgrade and expand your identity” - James Clear (Atomic Habits)
What Up!
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for subscribing to the newsletter! I'm really glad you’re here. Recently I came down with the flu, which sucked but I’m back and excited to start bringing you some valuable content. I’m going to be sending these out twice a week on Monday’s and Thursday’s. Monday's newsletter will be dedicated to things I’m learning or wrestling with. I want to be real and raw with you and bring you into my heart and mind. Thursday's newsletter will carry an entrepreneurial theme to it, giving you the resources, encouragement, and inspiration to go out there and succeed. With that being said, let's dive in.
Lately I’ve been obsessed with identity. In the past I’ve always struggled with identity, not in the sense of manhood lol but where I’m putting my worth. I used to put my identity into monetary success or status, while I don’t struggle with it nearly as bad as I used to. I'd be lying if I told you I still didn't still sometimes struggle with it.
Your actions, reactions, habits, outcomes, and relationships all flow from what you believe about yourself aka your identity. I think it's no coincidence that the number one issue in society today is the struggle with identity. But what if I told you we’ve been struggling with identity since the Garden of Eden? In Genesis 1:26 God said He was making mankind in his image and likeness and in Genesis 3 the reason Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was because the serpent was able to deceive Eve saying “ You will not certainly die, the serpent said to the woman. For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” The serpent got her to question her identity but if she previously understood that she is a daughter and created in the image of the father she wouldn’t have stumbled. Now fast forward to Matthew 4 when Jesus was led by the spirit in the wilderness to be tempted by the tempter the first thing Satan said to Jesus was “IF YOU ARE THE SON…”. Satan was even trying to get Jesus to question his identity, but where Adam and Eve failed Jesus prevailed.
After learning this it doesn’t surprise me how critical our identity is, I’d compare it to the foundation of a house. If it’s not structurally sound it’s going to crumble. Say goodbye to those goals you have because if you can’t get a hold on this it's going to be a rough ride.
Real Life Ways to Help with Identity:
Open up your bible and devour it. God tells us who we are and whose we are. Do you actually believe it?
Start doing affirmations - not the dumb ones like “I’m rich” more so like “i am loved, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, God created me to prosper in anything I put my hand to”
Spend time in the quiet place with God
Surround yourself with people who are actually going to encourage and build you up not with losers
This newsletter could probably go on for like 10 pages but for the sake of your time I am going to stop here. You are loved, special, and you were made to do something GREAT with your life.
Kill it this week!!!
